How Firewood spent their summer vacation

How Firewood spent their summer vacation

September is here and summer is a thing of the past. Wasn’t it just yesterday that we were Instagramming about Cinco de Mayo and July 4th? We’ve been busy hiring like crazy and loving our new office space, but how did Firewoodians spend their summer outside of the office?

Senior Art Director Tara Parente spent some time in Maui. That water looks much more appealing than The Bay.

Senior Analyst Bethany Leonard hiked to Artist Point and Tower Falls during her trip to Yosemite. While this natural wonder is within driving distance for most Firewoodians, Bethany works out of our Sandpoint, Idaho, office, so it was quite the trek for her.

Digital Marketing Manager Amanda Luciano traveled to London and Madrid, and got to show her dad around London where she spent a year before studying.

Associate Creative Director Leanne Chabalko traveled back to her hometown of Bel Air, Maryland, to chase lightning bugs, hang out with friends and family, and eat cheesesteak. Fun fact: she’s not the only Firewoodian from this small town!

Senior Digital Marketing Manager Suparna Sen was completely dwarfed by the giant redwoods that line the coast in Crescent City, CA. Quite a change from the city’s towers!

Group Account Director Amy Michael road tripped through California, Arizona, and Colorado, and then returned home via train on the California Zephyr. She went from 9,000 feet elevation and snow in Mammoth Lakes to 300 feet below sea level and 130 degrees in Death Valley—in one day! Puts a day at a desk to shame…though a lot less comfortable.

Manager of Financial Analysis Sue Separk spent the summer rocking out, but her favorite moment was taking a dip in the cool river after four days of sweat during the High Sierra Music Festival.

SVP of Strategy Erica Carmel traveled all across Europe—London, Edinburgh, Prague, Vienna, Salzburg, Munich, and Amsterdam. The highlights? She and her family “saw the Queen of England twice, explored a salt mine, took an amazingly kid friendly tour of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, and ate more mozartkugel and stroopwafels than should be allowed.” But she brought some goodies home for Firewood, so we’ll allow it!

CFO Loni Knepper watched her 14-year-old daughter and her horse, Rhythm, compete in their first big barrel race at their local fair. Only 10 ladies qualified!

Senior Recruiter Alana Hatcher celebrated her 20th wedding anniversary with friends and family, from near and far. But she kept it close to home: right in her backyard.

Associate Account Director Rebecca Routs and Senior Copywriter Becca Hawk both went on an Alaskan cruise just one week apart. Rebecca’s favorite moment was halibut fishing in Ketchikan, while Becca’s was seeing both glaciers and rainforests so close together.

HR Director Imma Trillo vacationed in her hometown of Barcelona, a city saddened by the recent terrorist attacks. She also took a trip within the trip and went to Galicia (northwest Spain), which the Romans considered the end of the earth, and where the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok pillaged in the early middle ages. Despite the history of the scenery, she says it was gorgeous.

There’s still time for us San Franciscans to enjoy the summer heat (our first bout of it, in fact), but that summer feeling will soon be gone. Now to start planning holiday parties and campaigns…
