Amazon is seeking an empire.

The leading online marketplace just launched a cashier-free convenience store, but that’s just the beginning. Amazon hopes to operate more than 2,000 grocery and convenience stores across the US. Think Target and Walmart, but with substantially more bots.

Google gets emoji intelligence.

Between Maps and Home, there’s no doubt Google has been hard at work with AI. And now comes their emoji-smart social bot. Tweet at Google with a hamburger or taco, and it’ll show restaurants near you that serve that food. They promise easter eggs, too. Maybe best brunches? ;)

iPhone 7 reminds us that ads can still be magical.

Apple’s new spot uses an artistically lit and shot Romeo and Juliet to show that even a regular dad can be a videographer. With the tag “your movies look like movies on iPhone 7,” it’s safe to boast, if not movies, some pretty compelling ad spots.


Calling all creatives!

AIGA and Google have teamed up to create the 2016 Design Census that they’ll use for “an open and collaborative resource for understanding the complex economic, social, and cultural factors shaping the design practice today.” The survey closes Dec. 16, 2016 and the data will be live Jan. 10, 2017.

Pine needles, the new sheep’s wool?

Looking for the newest biodegradable fiber? Look no further than Dutch Design Week 2016, and at it: furniture and textiles made from pine needles. Appropriately named Forest Wool, the collection created by designer Tamara Orjola is sure to have legs…or at least trunks.

Air travel causes stress, there’s no doubt about it. So how do we combat it? Airport bars, in-flight movies, and now a pig. San Francisco International Airport, in partnership with the SF SPCA, is hosting LiLou, the first therapy pig for airports. An unlikely influencer, but arguably the best one yet.
