Pursuing a side hustle while simultaneously working a nine-to-five takes courage, strength, and creativity. It definitely isn’t easy, and it’s one of the many reasons why our Senior Copywriter Becca Hawk is a huge inspiration to us all.
When Becca isn’t blessing us with all of her creative juices, she is working on her style and lifestyle blog Non Basic Blonde. The blog’s main goal is to show that women don’t have to fit a certain mold to be fashionable. Launched in February of this year, the name came from her desire to illustrate her different fashion point of view. Being a blonde, people often stereotyped her as being “ditzy” or “basic.” So for her, Non Basic Blonde is both a statement and a lifestyle.
In the seven months that the blog has been live she has already learned so much! One of the most important lessons has been on time management and the importance of having a me day.
“There are weeks [when] I don’t post because my sanity and sleep are more important than sharing clothes on the internet. A side hustle should be about balancing, not juggling.”
To anyone hoping to pursue a career in blogging, she recommends you get connected. There are a lot of Bay Area fashion bloggers, and the community is very welcoming, so be sure to tap in with them. Another of her recommendations is to always be yourself. As cliche as that may sound, she notes that the reader can tell when something is forced. Write about things that you know, and be honest. “The reader will thank you for it, and you’ll have an authentic fan base and an easier time creating content.”
